Client Manual Updates

So you have a hacked or infected computer.

Disconnect it from your network... Now

Having disconnected it you need to update it's anti-virus software. So I am assuming that you already have Symantec Endpoint on it.

What you need to do now is make sure you have the latest definitions, these are the files that are updated almost daily to keep you safe. Obviously something did not keep you safe.

  1. Make sure that eTrust is not installed.
    1. If you find the Blue Heart Beat icon in the systray:
    2. manually uninstall CA eTrust from the Control Panel | Add Remove Programs

Server LiveUpdate Errors

Having issues with with LiveUpdate on the server not running:

Error: LiveUpdate encountered one or more errors. Return code = 4

You need to uninstall and reinstall Symantec LiveUpdate

Client Unmanaged Managed

The joys of Symantecs Endpoint Anti-virus Software.

Making a managed session unmanaged.

The purpose of this can be two fold:

  1. You need to make a managed SEP into an unmanaged SEP
  2. You need to change where a managed SEP looks for it's updates.
    • This second options has really bugged me. I have tried may things to make this happen and this has been my solution.

  2. Setting up XP PCs so that they can be managed remotely with the Symantec Endpoint Console.
