Getting rid of the ugly

Before you do anything make sure you have a backup of your website.

In cPanel for your website

1. use the file manager
2. go into the root directoy of your website
3. this should be public_html
4. rename htaccess.txt .htaccess
5. you may have to over write an existing .htaccess file with 0 bytes

In the Joomla Administrator area,

1. Under the Site menu
2. Under Global Configuration
3. In the Site TAB
4. In the  SEO Settings Section
5. Change Search Engine Friendly URLs to Yes
6. Change Use Apache mod_rewrite to Yes
7. Save

Refresh your website and check.

You shoud see a far prettier URLs for your website.
