Open VPN at a win client

- Installer (64-bit), Windows XP and later
- openvpn-install-2.3.6-I001-x86_64.exe
- Installer (32-bit), Windows Vista and later
- openvpn-install-2.3.6-I601-i686.exe
Download and install....
Client Config Files
- copy C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\sample-config\client.ovpn to C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\easy-rsa\myclient.ovpn
- You may have to do this from an administrator dos session.
- Open myclient.ovpn (or what ever name you called your session)
- Find the following lines:
ca ca.crt cert client.crt key client.key
- Edit them as follows:
ca "C:\\Program Files\\OpenVPN\\config\\ca.crt" cert "C:\\Program Files\\OpenVPN\\config\\mike-laptop.crt" key "C:\\Program Files\\OpenVPN\\config\\mike-laptop.key"
- Where mike-latop is the name you used to create the crt & key on the linus server previously. VPN.v7 Notice that the name of the client certificate and key files depends upon the Common Name of each client.
- Edit the following line, replacing "my-server-1" with your server's public Internet IP Address or Domain Name. If you need help, see Static Internet IP below.
remote my-server-1 1194
Save the file.
Starting the VPN
With the server already running openvpn....
- Open the directory C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\easy-rsa\
- You will see the file :: myclient.ovpn
- Right click this file and click on
- Start OPENVPN on this configuration file
- A DOS window opens with a list of lines.
- Check for errors/access denied/failures
Set permissions
openvpn does need to run as administrator.
- Click Start
- Click All Programs
- Click Open VPN
- Right Click Open VPN GUI
Navigate in explorer to the openVPN Program directory
- Right click the file openvpn-gui and go to properties.
- do the same thing for the file openvpn (just to be sure)
