These are applications you commonaly find on the Windows Desktop, but now we want to get them going in Centos.

Teamviewer

Download from here: http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/linux/

Obviously download the .rpm one.

Drop down to terminal.

yum install teamviewer*.rpm

This will also install all deeded dependencies.

This works for both KDE and Gnome.

Skype

Download from here: https://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/

This should give you the options for the .rpm version. The Fedora 16 32bit works for me.

Drop down to terminal.

yum install skype*.rpm

This will also install all deeded dependencies.

Sound

Setting up sound to go to the headset, but still have youtube etc, go to the speakers.

Gnome

yum install pavucontrol pulseaudio-libs kde-settings-pulseaudio wine-pulseaudio paprefs

Some of these may not have been needed, but the do not seem to harm.

Go to Applications -> Sound and Video -> PaulseAudio Volume Control

PulseAudio01.png

  • Now start Skype
  • Do a Echo / Sound Test
  • While the test is running you will see the application on the screen

PulseAudio02.png

  • While the application is using sound, you are able to assign a desult playback/record device.
  • This will be remembered.

KDE

  • Run System tools
  • Find the sound settings
  • Choose which device to be communications playback.
  • Did you find this page useful?
  • Do you have an issue that you have not yet fixed?

We can do this for you.
